About the Project
The Virtual Library medien buehne film is a multidisciplinary information portal and research instrument for the subjects of Communication Studies, Journalism and Media Studies, Theatre Studies as well as Film Studies. Aside from the conventional library collections, this service also covers digital resources like internet resources, whose contents are indexed following relevance and quality criteria as well as bibliographic standards. In addition, different databases are integrated for searching. Academics, students and other interested parties can search through data sources of various type and origin and find anything from bibliographic records to access to full-text in one place.
The project is part of the "Nationwide Library Services / Virtual Libraries funding programme of the German Research Foundation ( DFG 
)", which provides the expansion of library services with publications from the internet. The Virtual Library medien buehne film is a cooperative project of the University of Leipzig Library (special collection area 3.5 Communication and Media Studies / Journalism), the University of Frankfurt/Main Library Johann Christian Senckenberg (special collection area 9.3 Theatre and Film Studies), the Department of Dramaturgy at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig as well as the Film and Television University “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam. The Project was initially funded for the period 2007 to 2009 by the DFG, a second funding period from 2010 to 2012 was approved in early 2010.
During the second phase, the individual modules of the Virtual Library medien buehne film will have their content expanded and functionality improved. Many other modules (e.g. nationally-licensed resources), additional catalogues and databases will steadily expand the service.
