Beschreibung "This site shows only a small handful of the installation drawings we hold at the study collection. It is not a comprehensive list, nor will it document the installations shown in any great depth. It is meant to offer an insight into the different ways in which artists choose to illustrate their video installations, how they are planned, and physically installed in a given space. To this end drawings and diagrams are perhaps the best means of evoking installations compared to, for example, photographs or stills from video footage used in the installation. David Hall's illustrations for A Situation Envisaged: The Rite not only includes exact measurements and materials used, it also depict time and movement within the installation. A photograph from the exhibition shows the back of four television monitors presumably forming part of a circle. It does not show the installation in full, but even if it did we would not get a sense of the movement of the plinth nor the time it takes for it to rotate. While some artists choose to give quite detailed specifications of the measurements and materials required for the video installation, others are more concerned with movement or colour - it depends on the type of installation described. In Mineo Aayamaguchi's work, for example, colour and composition are of prime importance, while physical movement is central in Tony Sinden's BE/HOLD/VERTICAL/DEVICES. John Adams' drawing for Goldfish Memoirs & The Think Tank, on the other hand, is much more concerned with the specific materials used in the installation and the practical problem of constructing the tank. Carolee Schneemann's installation drawing is quite a wonderful piece in its own right going beyond mere description to evoke a sense of urgency and movement. The use of colour and collage-technique are additional creative means of illustrating the installation, which is otherwise left with minimal specifications. In fact, the drawing could well be a wholly independent piece of work considering Schneemann's past as a painter." (Information des Anbieters)
